I went to Chicago last week and I checked in the lakefront Embassy Suite. The Embassy Suite is a decent hotel and the rates were not cheap. On the internet the hotel looked very nice and clean and upscale. Well when I arrived it was something totally different. First and foremost the entire hotel smelled like cleaning solution, but it was not clean. The carpet in the lobby was dirty, the chairs in the lobby were dirty and the windows were all smudge with dirt and finger prints. When I arrived in the room it looked like I was in a corner room at motel 6. Don't get me wrong I do not have a problem with Motel 6 if that's what I was paying for, but the rate was not $40 it was $219. First I called the manager and she was not available and after 2 hours she had not called me back. I then went to the front desk to let them know that I was checking out and going to another hotel. The front desk clerk was very accommodating and very understanding but before she checked me out she wanted me to talk to her manager. This was understandable, so I agreed. The front desk clerk came back out 5 minutes later and told me she's giving me half off the bill and her manager was busy. I took the discount, but if they really cared about their customer the manager should have come out to greet me in person. They act as if unsatisfied customers is a norm and this was there normal way of handling unhappy consumers. What they do not know is that the Embassy Suite has always been my choice of hotel wherever I travel, and I travel a lot. But I found a new hotel as a result of my dis-satisfaction and I will never stay at another Embassy Suites again. About that Front Desk Clerk? I made sure that I completed a Customer Service Card for the hotel and I gave her kudos but everything else I complained about. I will let you know what happens.
