The Relay For Life of
Southeastern San Diego
is a 24-hour campout to celebrate cancer survivorship and to increase community awareness of cancer prevention and detection. Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research, school and work site education programs, public policy efforts and direct services to cancer patients and their families.
The event is planned, organized and executed by community volunteers.

Saturday, July 21, 9 a.m. to Sunday, July 22, 9 a.m.
Opening ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with welcome from 51st District Representative Bob Filner. Bill Griffith, KGTV News Anchor, will be the guest speaker. Survivor's Lap will follow opening ceremonies. Survivor's brunch at 11 a.m. organized by Black Men United with food donated by local restaurants and markets.
On-going musical entertainment, games, face painting, bounce house, clowns, contests with prizes and cancer prevention educational activities for children and adults throughout the day. Relay is an alcohol and tobacco free event. Bill Tall, owner of City Farmer's Nursery, will conduct a vegetable/seed planting demonstration and talk at 2 p.m.
The luminaries, decorated with the names of cancer survivors and those lost to cancer, will be lit in a special ceremony at 9 p.m. to light the way for those who will walk the course through the night.
Relay For Life is a celebration of life for survivors, a memorial for loved ones lost and a rally for the community to fight cancer. It is also the largest fundraising event in the world with 4,800 communities across the U.S. participating this season. Last year, some $375 million was raised at Relay For Life events across the nation for cancer research, education and patient programs.
