100 Years of Gertrude E. Stein and Alice B. Toklas
(7/5) - I Love You Alice B. Toklas (1968, 94 min.) – Peter Sellers is a square who falls for a hippie and becomes one himself in this “groovy” comedy set in the late sixties. (7/12) - Paris Was a Woman (1996, 75 min.) – The creative community of women living in the Left Bank in Paris during the early part of the 20th century is documented in this film using still photos, archival footage and interviews. A short film, At The Farmer's Market With Alice B. (2004, 8 minutes) by Hans Gallas will also be shown. (7/19) - The Moderns (1988, 126 min.) – An expatriate American in 1920s Paris is commissioned to forge three masterpieces, but the art collector's wife has something other than painting on her mind. Starring Keith Carradine, Genevieve Bujold, Geraldine Chaplin and Wallace Shawn. (7/26) - Waiting for the Moon (1987, 88 min.) – An engrossing exploration of the complex relationship between Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas during a three-month period in 1936.
